Despite Coaching to Change Ole Loses No 6 in CFP Ranting -

The College Football Playoff selection committee did not penalize Ole Miss after former coach Lane Kiffin stunned second-ranked LSU on Tuesday.

In fact, the committee moved the Rebels up to No. 6 in the rankings after a 38-19 win over rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl last week.

Ole Miss Coures was worried that the selection committee could give them an answer after Kuta left on Saturday to Friday, which could jeopardize their chances in the first month of the CFP later.

"Obviously, our team is still there," Ole Miss Athletic Director Keith Carter said Tuesday."We have a great staff of prepared players."

Unbeaten Ohio State and Indiana remain the top two teams, followed by Georgia at No. 3, Texas Tech and Oregon at No. 5. The Bulldogs, Red Raiders and Ducks moved up one spot after losing 27-17 at Texas last week.

Texas A&M lost four spots after its first loss of the first season and by memory and by heart.

JMU, North Texas, Iowa and Houston are among this week's CFP Top 25.

"I think these guys, what they've done in this world and what they've done on 11-11 and what they've done on Monday, I think that speaks for itself," Carter said.

Kiffin left Ole Miss before completing his sixth season at Ole Miss, signing a seven-year contract with LSU that made him the highest-paid coach in the FBS.He brought several assistant coaches with him Sunday against Baton Rouge.

LSU announced new offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. on Tuesday.- Ole Miss' leading pitcher has announced that he will be allowed to return to the Rebels this season.

"I have informed the committee of this. And we hope this decision brings Ole Miss the highest ranking possible. Because these great players deserve it," Kiffin said in a statement. "I am thrilled that Charlie will return to help coach the greatest team in Ole Miss history."

Texas moved up three spots to No. 13 after the upset, followed by Bindelbil and Utah.USC was 16, while Virginia, Arizona, Michigan and Tulane finished in the top 20.

Notre Dame lost to Miami 27-24 in the opening game on August 31, but the Fighting Irish were two points ahead of the Hurricanes. Both teams finished the regular season with identical 10-2 records.
