Players discuss AFC South race day after Week 13 win

NT Davon Hamilton, a day after a 25-3 win over the Tennessee Titans set up Sunday's AFC South showdown with the Indianapolis Colts at Everbank Field: “We said we were going to do this at the beginning of the season, and that's what we did.

JACKSONVILLE - The time is now, and a big moment of the regular season is upon us.

Sunday did what they had to do.Now they're doing what they've been working on for the first three months of the 2025 regular season.

They get to play big, late-season games that don't matter.

"We know where our goals are and we're trying to push them," Davon Hamilton said.

A day after a 25-3 road win over the Tennessee Titans opened a huge game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Hamilton, the veteran defensive lineman, told the media on Monday that he was in sole possession of first place in the AFC South.

"Awesome," forward Cole Van Leenen said."After all, that's what you're in it for."

The three-game winner (8-4) moved into a tie for first place in the AFC South with the Colts (8-4) on Sunday. The Colts lost 7-5 20-16 to the Houston Texans on Sunday in Indianapolis.

The Colts lead the division thanks to their regular season record (Colts 6-2, 5-3) heading into Sunday's first of two 2025 contests at Everbank Stadium.

"It's something we've been working on," Hamilton said."We said at the beginning of the season we were going to do it and that's what we're doing. It gives our team confidence to play these types of games and we know where we want to go."

After a 4-1 start, they lost two straight games before winning four of their last five. They've won their last three with a stout defense, holding the Los Angeles Chargers to 135 total yards in a 35-6 Week 11 win and Tennessee to 188 total yards on Sunday.

The three-game winning streak that keeps the AFC's third seed behind the AFC East-leading New England Patriots (10-2) and the AFC West-leading Denver Broncos (10-2) came after a 36-29 loss to the Texans, a game they led by 19 points early in the fourth quarter.

"There's a lot of guys that were here, maybe on the team last year, that are trying to change the narrative and show that, 'Hey, man, we've got talent and how do you deal with adversity, how do you show up to work every day, get off the mat after a tough loss and get ready to play.'

"It's been really cool. We've been trying to get 1-0 every week and see what happens. The collaboration between the players and the coaches being on the same page about where we're trying to go and what our goals are, I think that's probably led to some of the bonding and belief that we've had during the tough times."

Now the NFL's No. 1 Colts, who have lost two straight and three of their last four - are sixth in the NFL in rushing.Colts quarterback Jonathan Taylor leads the NFL with 1,282 yards and 15 rushing touchdowns.

"They're a very good team this year," Hamilton said."We're a very good team this year. I think it's just our confidence and our play and how well we're playing.

"You get to the end of the year where the games are important and you're finally playing to win the Super Bowl. As a player, the games are exciting and really mean a lot," Van Leenen said.

"It's exciting and exciting to do it with this team."

- Sunday was a good experience for Hamilton and he wants not to go through it again. The veteran defender defended the long snapper for 15 minutes and a half, making five tackles, a goal and a goal.(Ohio State) Central Central Central. It's something that inspires me," he laughed. "I've never had a fling in the NFL. Of course I have respect for Ross. I hope he doesn't hurt again." Hamilton said he hasn't made a jump if it's training camp. He said, "It's been a few minutes." "I'll take some shots during the week - just for myself, if anything."
