- The Seattle Seahawks are expected to hire San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach and running backs coordinator Brian Fleury as their new offensive coordinator, sources told Adam Schefter on Sunday.

The decision marks a turning point for the Super Bowl champion Seahawks, who began the search for Clint Kubiak's successor, thinking he would likely be promoted from within.

Instead, they hired Fleury, who spent the past seven seasons with the 49ers, from a division rival. He joined Kyle Shanahan's staff in 2019 as defensive quality control coach and spent the next two seasons (2020-21) as offensive quality control coach before being promoted to tight ends coach (2022). Fleury last season held the title of running backAdded game coordinator.

Kubiak is one season as Seattle's offensive coordinator after the Las Vegas Raiders hired him as head coach after the Seahawks won Super Bowl LX on Sunday.

Seahawks coach Mike McDonald interviewed four internal candidates for the job.Among them was quarterbacks coach Andrew Yanuko, a longtime Kubiak assistant who is being hired to be the Raiders' no-call OC, sources told Schefter on Sunday.

Other internal candidates the Seahawks interviewed were run specialist Justin Outten, tight ends coach Mack Brown and passing game coordinator Jake Peetz, a source told Jeremy Fowler.

Macdonald sought continuity of plan in his next coordinator, and even if the coach didn't promote from within as he originally thought he would, quarterback Sam Darnold and the rest of Seattle's offense won't have to start over in 2026. The 49ers are running a version of the West Coast offense that Kubiak — who spent time in San Francisco in San Francisco.

A native of Maryland, Fleury played for the Terrapins and FCS school Towson. He began his NFL coaching career with the Buffalo Bills (quality control) in 2013 before serving as the Cleveland Browns' assistant linebackers coach in 2014 and their outside linebackers coach in 2015.

In 2016, he served as a football analyst for the Miami Dolphins and the following two years served as the team's director of football research.
