Sabers vs Golden Knights How to Watch Train Notes and Stories Buffalo Sabres

Tig Thompson and Saber return to Cubbank Center with a gold medal and plenty of momentum.

After nearly a month, the Buffalo Sabers return to action at KeyBank Center against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

Buffalo returned from the Olympic break and took care of business on a grueling road trip, defeating the New Jersey Devils, Florida Panthers and first-place Tampa Bay Lightning in four days, all in regulation.

Saturday's 6-2 rout of Tampa legitimized the Sabers as an Eastern Conference contender. The Lightning -- especially goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy -- had been nearly unbeatable for months, but the visiting Sabers needed just 22 minutes to jump out to a 5-0 lead and end Vasilevskiy's night with a "mercy move," according to Tampa Bay coach John Cooper.

Buffalo, currently on the road (16-2-1 since Dec. 9), plans to continue putting on a show at home.Despite losses to Montreal and Pittsburgh at KeyBank Center before halftime, the Sabers have a .661 home points percentage this season (17-8-3), which ranks them sixth in the NHL.

The crowd should be in for a bit of a treat on Tuesday when Buffalo honors Tage Thompson and Team USA with an Olympic gold medal. The forward managed three goals in Milan and stayed hot against the Sabres, registering four points (2+2) on the road.

"I'm excited to see the scarves waving," Thompson said. "I heard it's sold out, so the place is going to be buzzing. The kids are playing really well right now, too, so I think everyone's excited."
