North Carolina loses first game since Bill Belichick included Giant Rumors New York Post

North Carolina struggled to get any offense going in Saturday's 28-12 loss to Wake Forest, snapping their two-game winning streak.

The struggle continued for Bill Belichick's Tar Heels.

North Carolina snapped a two-game winning streak with a 28-12 loss to Wake Forest on Saturday.

"Not good enough in any area," Belichick told reporters in his postgame press conference.

The Tar Heels were held scoreless in Saturday's loss, with their only margin coming from four field goals.

North Carolina kicker Rahe Werhoff had two of his field goals blocked by the Demon Deacons' defense, which Belichick called "penetration" of defenders and poor timing.

"One was a big penetration, and the other one was clearly a poor execution of the pull time on our end," Belichick said of the field goals.

Quarterback Gio Lopez threw 201 of 6 attempts and dug his heels in despite his team's absence.

“I thought he did a really good job tonight,” Belichick said of Lopez.“He was under a lot of pressure… he thought he held his own and made some good shots.”

North Carolina's loss came amid speculation that Belichick could take over as Giants head coach after they fired Brian Daboll on Monday.

But Belichick dismissed the speculation Friday, insisting he is committed to the Tar Heels football program.

"I have the utmost respect and concern for the New York Giants organization and the Mara and Tish families," he wrote in a statement posted on Instagram.“The New York Giants played an important role in my life and coaching journey.

"It has been my honor to serve the Mara family and have been a member of Coach Parcells' staff for over a decade. However, despite rumors, I will not be pursuing any NFL head coaching vacancy."

Before the legend embarked on two decades with the Patriots, Belichick won two Super Bowls as the Giants' big league defensive coordinator.

"Since coming to Chapel Hill, my commitment to the UNC football program has [not] wavered," Belichick continued in his statement."We have tremendous support from the university, alumni and the entire Carolina community."

"My focus is on the development of this team, the development of our players and doing a service that makes the fans happy."
