The Mavericks disagreed with how Redick described the MRI events surrounding Reaves.
The Mavericks dispute Lakers manager JJ Redick's claim that they scanned the wrong area due to Austin Reaves' injury.
The Dallas Mavericks don't agree with how Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Reddick was painted after Austin Reaves' injury on Thursday.
In a statement to DLLS player Ron Harrod Jr., the franchise disputed the coach's claim Saturday that the team had scanned the wrong area for the Lakers guard after what turned out to be a Grade 2 oblique strain.
The full statement:
"Our medical team followed standard imaging protocols based on information at the time. There was nothing in the investigation."
Reaves has since been ruled out for the rest of the regular season, as has Lakers star Luka Dončić with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. The availability of both players for the playoffs is up in the air.
The injury in question occurred during the Lakers' game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday. The Lakers are on the court in their next game against the Mavericks on Sunday and are awaiting the results of an MRI before determining Reaves' status.
Redick claimed the second MRI was necessary because Dallas scanned the wrong area when Muse performed the imaging on Reeves:
"I don't know where the chain of command is at Dallas Imaging, but they scanned the wrong area. So... not on our part. We clearly indicated what needed to be scanned, but they scanned the wrong area.'
The Mavericks later beat the Lakers 134-128, with Cooper Flagg scoring 45 points. The loss was a big blow for the Lakers, who jumped into third place in the West with the Denver Nuggets.
