ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.- Buffalo Bills cornerback Christian Benford injured his toe in practice Thursday as the team prepared for Sunday's AFC East matchup against the New England Patriots.
Benford was wearing a small boot/walking shoe on his left foot in the locker room after use.He participated in each drill in the first use of the media.
The injury comes into a bad time with the powerful New England offense on deck. The second quarterback Drake May is between the MVP Favorites that include the week's game after leading the patriots to a 11-2 record.
Benford is coming off the best two games of the season for tipsters and pitchers. He threw a touchdown in two games and returned the ball to the offense against the passers. His decision to hold Cincinnati's touchdown was a key play in the game that helped Buffalo come from behind to win.
Benford and the Bills' defensive backs have their hands full with New England's arsenal of weapons. In the first game these two teams played in October, former Buffalo receiver Stefon Diggs caught 10 passes for 146 yards.
If Benford can't play, it will start with rookie Maxwell's hair turning white against the Patriots. Two turnovers have been used in the last few months when Hairstone returned from injured reserve.
Slay chose not to report to Buffalo, and general manager Brandon Beane placed the 34-year-old on the reserve/non-reporting list as he considers whether to retire. The Bills currently have veteran Dane Jackson on their roster. He could be elevated to face the Patriots if Benford is unable to make the trip.Earlier this week, the Bills also added former Raiders linebacker MJ Devonshire to the practice squad.
