The Washington and Los Angeles Rams are expected to add up in the first round of the NFL draft with a big trade.
With the 2026 NFL Draft just over a month away, the Washington Commanders are going to be a fascinating team.
Currently, the Chiefs have the No. 7 overall pick in the first round. While they could choose to stay there and take a player, a trade remains a potential option.
Remember, Washington had a lot of guesses about the choice.Jeremiah Love is a popular name connected to the Commanders, although there's no guarantee he'll get it.
After missing the playoffs last season after returning to the NFC Championship Game in 2024, Washington is motivated to return. In free agency, the Commanders have added quite a bit, but the NFL Draft will be just as important.
That being said, Washington is expected to make a big trade with the Los Angeles Rams that will shake up the first round of the draft.
The Commanders and Rams are possible trade partners
Dean Jones of Riggo's Rag has proposed a blockbuster trade option between Washington and Los Angeles in which the No. 7 overall pick goes to Los Angeles.
Instead of giving up on No. 7, the seniors are fighting back. They get the 13th overall pick, the No. 61 pick, the No. 93 pick and a 2027 second-round pick.
Of course, this is simply a hypothetical trade idea, but that's how much the Rams would have to give up to move up to No. 7. For Washington, this move would make a lot of sense.Adam Peters would have more draft capital to work with this year and an additional second-round pick in 2027.
With the No. 13 overall pick out of Los Angeles, Jones has the Chiefs selecting LSU cornerback Mansur Delaney.
"Dylan could be the missing piece of the puzzle," Jones wrote. "He's the best cornerback in this class."
"The decline thereafter is quite steep, according to most analysts. Commanders are also showing interest, confirming an in-person visit with the LSU prospect to learn more about what he might offer."
What did the commanders do in NFL free agency?
For now, Washington should be happy with the way things have turned out.The team has lost two key targets, but Peters has upgraded the roster.
Additions so far this season include defensive end Odafe Oweh, running back Rachaad White, linebacker Leo Chenal, cornerback Amik Robertson, defensive end K'Lavon Chaisson, tight end Chig Okonkwo and safety Nick Cross. They have been very busy improving the defense.
Bringing in Delane would further improve the Commanders' secondary.
All that being said, there's no telling how open Washington is when it comes to selling No.7. However, that race could move the right of the election of the Governors.
