The Dolphins snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Bills with Sunday's 30-13 win.
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - There was little reason to believe the Miami Dolphins would beat the Buffalo Bills at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.Given that the Bills have won 14 of their previous 15 games, you'd be called "fake" if you guessed a Dolphins win.
But that's how Dolphins defensive end Bradley Chubb describes the team's locker room.
Miami snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Bills with a convincing 30-13 victory on Sunday. The win marked the third-highest upset in the NFL this season. The Dolphins were an 8.5-point underdog entering the game.
Many football pundits believed the Dolphins' season was over and criticized the team for not actively trading away players at the deadline to raise more capital. But Chubb, who was considered a deadline target, said the team's faith hasn't wavered despite a 3-7 start to the season.
"It doesn't matter. We just came to work," Chubb said after Sunday's game."Everyone had the same mindset, and that's why I use the word 'delusion', because no one from the outside will believe it. But we all knew it, we went out and showed it today.
“It's just about belief, the people believing in them, belief in the process, how we have the field and how it has worked.
Miami led 16-0 in the first half since 2007, holding the Bills scoreless.
Buffalo cut its deficit to 10 points with 3:36 to play, but Achane scored his second of three games later on the 35th yard to seal the win.
"They decided to believe it all season long," Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said."They made the decision to continue to believe and continue to invest in each other. So my belief in football and in life is that it will pay off."
"I think it's very nice from their games to feel your time in your time when there are more of them."
Miami was swept by the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9 and parted ways with general manager Chris Greer the next day.GM traded linebacker Champ Kelly to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third-round pick, but declined to make any other moves.
McDaniel said Wednesday there was nothing to move the "needle" for the Dolphins at the deadline and the team's confidence in himself, Kelly and senior vice president of football Brandon Shore agreed on the momentum the team did and didn't make.
Miami lost seven straight games to Buffalo when McDaniel was hired in 2022, but snapped a losing streak in its first game against the five-time AFC East champion. However, the Dolphins haven't beaten the Bills since that game and lost 31-21 earlier this season.
Sunday's result marked the Dolphins' slimmest win over Buffalo since a 35-8 victory in 2011.It also marked the second time McDaniel's team responded to one of its worst games of the season with one of its best.
Miami beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-10 in Week 8, a week after losing to the Cleveland Browns 31-6.
"I'm really glad that everybody sees the side that I see," McDaniel said."I see guys -- win, lose or draw -- focus and lean in. And I think you finally have the games that come together in those situations. So, I think it's great because they deserve it. I'm not surprised. ... If you want to get respect from that team, we wanted it."It has to be earned.”
Achin, who finished with 225 total yards and two touchdowns, said the win over the Bulls "definitely" felt different than other wins, while offensive lineman Patrick Powell said the atmosphere in the locker room after the game was "pretty crazy" and the players "were just having fun like kids."
On Monday, the Dolphins fly to Madrid to face the Washington Commanders in their first NFL game in Spain. The Dolphins' next three opponents will each boast sub-.500 records, as Miami will face the New Orleans Saints and New York Jets right after a Week 12 bye.
Chubb said a Buffalo win could turn Miami's season around Buffalo.
We all know what we can do and we all believe that if we focus on it, we can play as much football as possible."The sky's the limit, man. You know what I mean? It's not like that - in the end, we know we can do it.
