Travis Kelce led the Chiefs to a comfortable win over the Commanders with six receptions on eight targets for 99 yards -- and his 83rd career touchdown, tying him with former running back Priest Holmes for the most touchdowns in franchise history.
KANSAS CITY, Mo.—As fireworks exploded overhead and fans at Arrowhead Stadium cheered after another touchdown for Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, quarterback Patrick Mahomes kept an eye on the ball, the same ball he threw to the most reliable pass catcher of his nine-year career. Mahomes caught the ball, understood its meaning, and made sure to give it to a staff member next to the Chiefs for Kelce to keep.
In the Chiefs' comfortable 28-7 win over the Washington Commanders, Kelce's 10-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter was historic.His 83rd career score tied former running back Priest Holmes for the most touchdowns in Chiefs franchise history.
"I appreciate this moment to be able to play at Arrowhead," Kelce said with a smile."This place is special. And I love it here. Historically, I'm still looking to the next game and the next catch and trying to get better."
Monday's win was the Chiefs' fifth in the past six games.with double-figures in each game.Kelce Still had his best game of the season, leading the Chiefs with six receptions on eight field goals for 99 yards.
"He's just the real boss of bosses," Mahomes said of Kelce's accomplishments."He's the guy that was here the whole time, was here with coach [Andy] Reed the whole time. He helped define the culture of what it means to play for coach Reed and for Kansas City."
"He's set all the records now. It's all about the team now, so we want to make sure he gets [the ball], and hopefully when we break his record after that."
The first time Mahomes threw the ball to Kelce on Monday was for a 1-yard loss in the first quarter.But on the next play, Mahomes gave the ball to Kelce.Credit to the leaders is that the ball didn't continue to Kelce, instead of someone who was put in the air and put through the line.
Chiefs' poor offensive performance in the first half, which included two goals, led to a 7-7 halftime tie.
"When you look at how everything developed in the first half, my number turned a stop, and it was kind of us determined how we play," said Kelsa."When we decided in the second half to collect and match energy [the Chiefs] - play hard, play quickly and play physically - we finally put some points on the table."
Kelce put together another Vintage performance by doing what he has always done throughout his career: using a domain comment.

“Even though we missed some of those explosive plays, the defense respects that,” Mahomes said."It was a game where I had [Worthy] and [Brown] and they were covering them well. Travis was blocking, blocking, blocking and you had to make plays, so he just let it go because he saw no one was guarding him."
Together, Mahomes and Kelce are the only three quarterback-tight end NFLDs and Robnown and Philip Rivers and Antonio Gate (90).
"I'm just an old dog, lucky to still be able to do this," Kelce said with a smile.
