LAKEWOOD, Ohio (WOIO) - NFL cornerback and former Ohio State football player Marshon Latimore is under investigation by Northeast Ohio State Police for a weapons violation.

Lattimore is a current player for the NFL's Washington Commanders.

19 The information was confirmed on Thursday morning with the Lakewood police that Lattimore was taken into custody and later released during the investigation.

Lattimore was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon, according to department jail records.

Lakewood police later shared that they stopped and arrested Lattimore in a parking lot for expired license plates.

During the stop, Lattimore, a passenger, was arrested for improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, according to police.

Lakewood police said they did not identify the weapon when asked.

“This is an ongoing investigation currently being reviewed by the prosecutor,” said Lakewood Police Capt. Gary Stone.

Lawyers from the FG+G company representing the 29-year-old citizen said that he fully cooperated with law enforcement authorities and that no charges were brought against him.

19 News has reached out to the NFL Players Association for comment.

Washington commanders released the following statement:

"We have been notified of the arrest and are gathering more information. We are in contact with the NFL League office and there is no further comment at this time."

This isn't the first time Lattimore has been arrested on weapons charges.

In 2021, he pleaded guilty to weapons charges in Cleveland.
