Florida Panthers guard Dmitry Kulikov likely injured after win over Philadelphia Flyers, Uvis Balinsky ready to play immediately
With Kulikov on IR, the Balinskis could go for the Florida Panthers
Sunrise - Yoction Balinskis could be a healthy subject for the Florida Panthers' first two seasons of the season so far, but he will be back on Saturday.
Florida could be without Dmitry Kulikov for a bit after Florida's veteran defenseman was injured in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Kulikov was injured midway through the second when he tried to hit Philadelphia's Bobby Thrink over the Center Ice Wall.
Kulikov came out with his right arm down and holding his wrist.
He went straight to his room through the tunnel and never returned to the game.
Paul Morris said Friday afternoon that he would update Kulikov before Saturday's game against the Ottawa Senators.
Later that day, the Panthers placed Kulikov on IR meaning he will miss at least a week.
No action has been made public.
Bariskis, 29, jumps on the 'panthers' banner.
In his third season with the Panthers, Balinskis was strong last season, starting 76 of Florida's 82 games, including several playoff games in the absence of Aaron Ekblad.
Balinsky also helped for the Panthers when Matthew Tkachuk and Sasha Barkov were injured early.
Now it looks like the Panthers could use Balinskis again.
“I just played a full season last year,” Balinskis said before the season started."I'm ready to go and I'll be ready. We'll see what happens."
Balinskis, already named to the Latvian Olympic team, was spotted playing in the Czech league a few years ago and the Panthers offered him a contract until 2023.
After making the nightly rosters in the 2023 season, Balinskis spent a good portion of the season in Charlotte, but was locked in with the panels and was on the playoffs for the rest of the season.
If Kulikov is out, Balinsky will slide to the right.
"Credit to the people who saw him, the new games are useful and he has the acquisition of other people that we have to see what we are doing.
