Boston Bruins News Fired General Manager Marco Sturm Morgan Geekie David Pastrnak

The New Jersey Devils have parted ways with general manager Tom Fitzgerald, making it another strange layoff this year.

With just over a week left in the 2025-26 NHL season, the playoffs are heating up and heating up fast.It goes without saying that jobs are available for players, coaches and frontline staff.

That's the case every year, but this year is different for clubs making moves less than two weeks into the season.First, former Boston Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy was fired two weeks ago and replaced by John Tortorella. Then on Sunday, the New York Islanders fired coach Patrick Roy and replaced him with Peter DeBoer, who signed a three-year contract.

As for former employees, the Toronto Maple Leafs fired general manager Brad Treliving last week.On Monday night, ESPN's Emily Kaplan said the New Jersey Devils will part ways with GM Tom Fitzgerald.

Those last two moves are bad news for Bruins GM Don Sweeney.why?Yes, the two most recent trades were completely covered by Swinney.Treliving was the latest to trade Sweeney Carlon last March for Frazier Minten, a 2026 first-round draft pick and the highest expected fourth-round draft pick.

As for Fitzgerald, Sweeney got rid of him four years ago when he sent Eric Haula to New Jersey for Pavel Zaha.Bottom line: don't fool Don Sweeney, he'll get you fired.

Marco Sturm was happy the Bruins got the point against the Flyers

The Bruins will close out their four-game road trip on Tuesday night when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes. As far as they're concerned, the journey can't end soon enough. They started with a 2-1 loss to the Florida Panthers, then two nights later blew a 1-0-1 lead in the third period and allowed three goals in a 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

They faced a brutal back-to-back against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday afternoon. After allowing a goal on the Flyers' first shot of the game, the Bruins tied the game on a power play goal by Zacha in the third period.Head coach Marco Sturm was happy his team secured a key point in the playoffs.

"It's a big point for us," Sturm said."Guys came back. We wanted to get a power play goal in the third period and we did. Korpi made a great save. We had some bad luck in OT, but we'll take it safe."

The points are worth the next week, plus.

Marco Sturm rounded out the main line

Sturm tries to find offense where he can.Against Philadelphia, he moved a struggling Morgan Geek to the top line with Elias Lindholm and David Pastrnak. It went scoreless as the Geekie's scoreless streak reached 17 games and they were on the ice in the Flyers' goal in the first period.

"I think most," said Sturmius. "It's time. It's time to show. So we want to give it another chance."

It didn't work overnight.
