The San Francisco 49ers never decided to trade up and draft quarterback Trey Lance.
But this week, the athletic KB will get another chance to start in the NFL.
It will be for the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 18 against the Denver Broncos.
The Chargers announced Monday that star Justin Herbert will not start against the Broncos, leaving Lance, the usual backup, to get the call.
L.A. The AFC may not win the West Division but they have already clinched the wild card.They have decided that Herbert's health is the most important thing.
This gives Lance a gun to prove himself.

No one doubted Lance's physical prowess.He has big hands and moves very well.
But he never put it together on a consistent basis with the 49ers, and injuries didn't help his cause either.
Lance spent time with the Dallas Cowboys and now the Chargers.
He played really well in the preseason this year, which essentially won him the QB2 job over Easton Stick, who was waived.
Now, Lance gets a chance to reap the rewards here.He'll start against good defenses, and if Lance plays well, it could be a big step toward his NFL future.
